It was Jose Olivares back in 1929 who, along with his fellow Chemistry students, established the UP Chemical Society. Back then, it was conceived to attain the highest level of academic superiority and competence in chemistry as well as its related fields. It also aimed to instill social awareness and discipline among its members by holding regular meetings, field trips, social gatherings, scientific lectures and convocations. These activities continued until the war broke out. The organization was revived back in 1947 and it is currently in its 86th year of exuding excellence in many aspects, both academic and otherwise.
